Lash Lift Aftercare: A Professional Guide

As a professional lash artist, you know that getting a lash lift can make a significant difference in a woman’s appearance. It’s a great way to enhance natural lashes without the use of eyelash extensions, mascara, or any other cosmetics. That said, to make them last longer after the procedure, it is important to educate your clients on how to properly care for their newly-lifted lashes.

Note that proper aftercare not only ensures the longevity of the lash lift but also prevents damage to the natural lashes. If you’re thinking of enrolling in a lash lift course, reading this article will sufficiently introduce you to one of its main areas of study. Here, we will cover everything a professional like you must know about proper lash lift aftercare.

Before we dive into lash lift aftercare, let’s first understand what a lash lift is.

We love Lifting up our students and @beautyby_tenielle is no exception with this stunning Lash Lift & Tint she submitted for her course case studies. Absolutely gorgeous work!

A lash lift is a semi-permanent treatment that curls and lifts natural lashes from the root. It’s a great alternative to lash extensions for those who want to enhance their natural lashes.

What Are The Procedures Done During Lash Lifting?

The lash lifting procedure involves several steps that are performed by a trained and certified lash artist. Before the procedure begins, the lash artist will consult with the client to determine their desired outcome and assess the condition of their lashes. It is important to note that not all clients are suitable candidates for lash lifting. The treatment is not recommended for those with very short or sparse lashes or those with certain eye conditions.

Step # 1

Once the consultation is complete, the client will be asked to lie down on a comfortable treatment bed. The lash artist will begin the procedure by thoroughly cleaning the eyelashes to remove any makeup or oils. The artist will then place a silicone shield or pad on the eyelid, which will help to protect the skin and shape the lashes.

Step # 2

This step involves applying a specially formulated lifting solution to the lashes. The solution will break down the bonds in the hair, allowing it to be reshaped. It is applied carefully and precisely to the lashes using a small brush, ensuring that it does not come into contact with the skin or the eyes.

Step # 3

After the lifting solution, a neutralizing solution is then applied to the lashes to stop the chemical reaction and lock in the new shape. This solution is also carefully applied to the lashes.

Step # 4

Finally, the lash artist will apply a conditioning serum to the lashes to help nourish and hydrate them, leaving them looking shiny and healthy. The silicone shield or pad is removed, and the lashes are gently combed to ensure that they are evenly lifted and separated.

The entire lash-lifting procedure typically takes around 45 minutes to an hour.

How long do lash lifts last?

How Long Do Lash Lifts Last?

The longevity of lash lifts vary depending on several factors, including your natural lash growth cycle, the quality of the lift, and how well you take care of your lashes after the treatment.

On average, lash lifts can last anywhere from 6-8 weeks. However, some people may see their lashes remain curled for up to 12 weeks. This is because lash lifts work by reshaping your natural lashes, rather than adding any extra length or volume. As your natural lashes grow and shed, the curl will eventually start to loosen, and your lashes will return to their natural shape.

The Importance of Lash Lift Aftercare

The Importance of Lash Lift Aftercare

After the lash lift procedure, it’s crucial to properly care for the lashes to ensure they remain lifted and curled for as long as possible. Not following the aftercare instructions can lead to the lashes losing their lift and even damaging the natural lashes. Hence, it’s important to educate your clients on the proper aftercare routine.

What You Should Be Doing

Below are some aftercare tips you can share with your clients so that the lash lift will last long.

Day 1:

After the procedure, advise your clients to avoid getting their lashes wet for at least 24 to 48 hours. The lashes need time to set in their new lifted position.

Days 2-3:

After the initial 24 to 48 hours, your clients can resume their regular cleansing routine. However, they should still avoid getting their lashes wet for an extended period through activities such as long showers or swimming.

Days 4-5:

Clients should still avoid any oil-based products or makeup removers as these can break down the adhesive used during the procedure.

Day 6 onwards:

After six days, clients can resume their regular skincare and makeup routines. However, they should still avoid using any oil-based products on their lashes.

What are the activities you can and cannot do after going through lash lifting?

What Are The Activities You Can and Cannot Do After Going Through Lash Lifting?

After undergoing a lash lifting procedure, there are certain activities that you can and cannot do to ensure your newly-lifted lashes remain in good condition and last as long as possible. While lash lifting is a low-maintenance procedure, it is important to take care of your lashes to avoid any damage or premature fallout.

Activities You Can Do After Lash Lifting:

1. Wear makeup

You can wear makeup as usual after lash lifting. However, it is crucial to avoid using any oil-based products on or around the eyes, as they can weaken the lift.

2. Exercise

While you can exercise after lash lifting, you must avoid excessive sweating or touching your lashes for at least 24 hours after the procedure.

Activities You Cannot Do After Lash Lifting:

1. Swim or Take Showers For Extended Periods

As mentioned earlier, you must avoid getting your lashes wet for at least 24-48 hours after the procedure, as water can weaken the lift.

When you do decide to go swimming after a lash lift, it is important to take precautions to protect your lashes. One of the best ways to do this is to wear goggles while swimming. Goggles will help to prevent water from getting into your eyes and onto your lashes, which can weaken the lift.

If you are unable to wear goggles, it is important to avoid submerging your face in the water as much as possible. You can also use a waterproof mascara to help protect your lashes while swimming provided it is not oil-based. We will discuss this further in another segment.

After swimming, it is important to gently rinse your face with fresh water and pat your lashes dry with a clean towel.

2. Use oil-based products

You should avoid using any oil-based products on or around the eyes, as they can weaken the lift.

3. Rub your eyes

You must never rub your eyes for at least 24 hours after the procedure.

4. Use an eyelash curler

You should avoid using an eyelash curler for at least 24-48 hours after the procedure. This can cause the lift to become misshapen or fall out prematurely.

By following these guidelines, you can ensure that your newly-lifted lashes last long. If you have any concerns or questions about lash lifting aftercare, it is recommended to consult with your lash artist or a qualified professional.

Are there products you need to use to maintain your lash lift?

Are There Products You Need to Use to Maintain Your Lash Lift?

After getting a lash lift, it’s essential to take care of your lashes properly to maintain their beautiful curl and ensure their longevity. To help you with this task, there are several lash lift aftercare products you should consider adding to your daily routine.

1. Lash Serum

A lash serum is a must-have after a lash lift. It promotes lash growth and keeps your lashes healthy and strong. This product is particularly useful if your lashes are naturally sparse or thin, as it helps make them appear fuller and longer. The serum should be applied once a day, preferably at night, to give your lashes time to absorb the nourishing ingredients.

2. Lash Conditioner

A lash conditioner is an excellent addition to your post-lash lift routine. It softens and moisturizes your lashes, preventing them from becoming dry and brittle. This is particularly important if you live in a dry climate or have naturally dry skin. The conditioner should be applied daily, ideally in the morning, to keep your lashes hydrated and supple.

3. Lash Comb

Lash comb is a handy tool that helps to separate and define your lashes. After a lash lift, your lashes will be beautifully curled, and using a lash comb will help keep them looking neat and tidy. It’s best to use a clean, disposable mascara wand or a specialized lash comb designed for this purpose.

What you should do if something goes wrong with your lashes

What You Should Do If Something Goes Wrong With Your Lashes

Sometimes, despite our best efforts, things can go wrong after the lash lift procedure. In the case of a lash lift, if something does go wrong, it’s important to advise your clients on the best course of action. Here are some common issues and how to address them:

Lashes Losing Their Lift

If the lashes start to lose their lift, advise your clients to use a lash lift tool to gently re-curl the lashes. However, it’s important not to use the tool too often as this can cause damage to the lashes.

Lashes Becoming Too Curled

If the lashes become too curled, advise your clients to use a lash serum to help relax the curl. Alternatively, they can try brushing the lashes downwards to help straighten them out.

Irritation

In the case of irritation or discomfort, advise your clients to avoid touching or rubbing their eyes and to seek medical advice if necessary.
